The Eponymist.
(Unpublished book project)
The Eponymist. is an illustrated book project that focuses on... eponyms. Surprise.
OK sure, but what are eponyms? Eponyms are things, discoveries, inventions, places, or concepts named after an individual. Like any word in any language, they mirror our culture and offer a glimpse of our past. But eponyms are unique because they are, more than any other word, human, all too human. They carry a life story, a personality trait, or an anecdote within themselves. They are intrinsically and unrelentingly connected to someone.
Whether you have used electricity (Greek Goddess Electra), or you have panicked (Greek God Pan) because your Bluetooth (Norsk King Harald 'Blåtand' Gormsen) was disabled... or whether you simply are in America (Amerigo Vespucci), you are an eponymist.
