RESEARCH
"In the realm of culture, outsideness is a most powerful factor in understanding. It is only in the eyes of another culture that foreign culture reveals itself fully and profoundly."

My research is at the intersection of cultural studies, film and television studies, intercultural communication, multimodality, digital humanities, and artificial intelligence. I propose a deep-learning approach to film and TV series to analyze and compare cultural and cinematographic elements in transcultural TV series adaptations. I aim to uncover cultural patterns and cinematographic trends through data mining. To gather and manage data, I have co-developed a AI toolkit, called The Möbius Trip, that can automatically collect and manage big data. As part of my approach, I also developed a method that reverse-engineers TV series episodes into measurable cultural elements.
