The Saint Jordi tradition, also known as Saint George's Day, is a beautiful and unique celebration from Catalonia, Spain. The celebration,  honoring love and literature, takes place on April 23. On this day, people exchange gifts of books and roses as a way to express their love and appreciation for one another.
Having lived in Barcelona for a while, I have witnessed the effervescent atmosphere on the streets paved with books and roses. Unlike Valentine's day, it has not been taken over by consumerist ideology. Rather, it is a poetic scenery that brings people together and promotes a sense of community.
The Saint Jordi tradition holds a special place in my heart.  It has been a source of inspiration for my illustrations. In fact, my very first digital drawing was to celebrate Saint Jordi in 2018. It is also a good indicator of my illustration style evolution and probably of my psychological moods as well.

I miss you, Barcelona. Always.
